Hello Fourth Grade Family Members,

                I wish you a very happy Thanksgiving and safe travels as you spend time with family over the break. Take pictures, make memories, watch the Vikings, relax, and love those that love you.             

Math - Chapter 6 – Time and Temperature

This is a CHALLENGING chapter. Please Practice.

  • Skills – tell time, elapsed time, elapsed time on a calendar, change units of time, sequence information, tell temperature, explore negative numbers
  • Vocabulary – second, minute, A.M., P.M., half hour, quarter hour, hour, elapsed time, calendar, time line, degree Fahrenheit, degree Celsius, negative numbers, positive numbers
  • www.ixl.com – O.5, 6, 8, 1 (and 3rd Grade T.3, 5, 6)

Reading - Unit 2 Week 1

  • Essential Question – What are some messages in animal stories
  • Spelling –prefixes on page 31 or 36  of your child’s spelling packet
  • Stories – The Secret Message, The Fox and the Goat, The Fisherman and the Kaha Bird
  • Genre – folktale, fable
  • Vocabulary – attracted, dazzling, fabric, greed, honest, requested, soared, trudged
  • Skills – ask and answer questions, theme-central message or lesson, root words
  • Grammar – common and proper nouns
  • Phonics – prefixes

Reading - Unit 2 Week 2

  • Essential Question – How do animal characters change familiar stories?
  • Spelling –digraphs on page 37 or 43  of your child’s spelling packet
  • Stories – The Ant and the Grasshopper, Ranita, The Frog Princess, The Moonlight Concert Mystery
  • Genre – drama, mystery
  • Vocabulary –annoyed, attitude, commotion, cranky, familiar, frustrated, selfish, specialty
  • Skills – ask and answer questions, theme-central message, context clues: antonyms
  • Grammar – singular and plural nouns
  • Phonics –diagraphs: a combination of two letters representing one sound, as in ph and ey.

AR/Computer

  • Ungifted By: Gordon Korman AR #153175 BL 5.2 – 8pts
  • Quarter 2 goals have been set. Please check your student’s progress regularly.

Social/Science

  • In Class Hobby Centers – woodworking, marbling paper, mosaics, microscopes, watercolor paint, drawing, writing with a quill pen
  • Hobby Journaling – once a week or so students will be asked to journal/reflect on their use of hobbies to relieve stress
